The Wine
Chateau Fonroque is the birthplace of the Moueix family in Saint-Emilion. This property was bought in 1931 by Jean and Adele, the great grandparents of Alain Moueix, the current director of this lovely wine estate. The Moueix family is one of the most renowned Bordeaux families, owning some of the most famous Chateaus like Petrus, Lagrange, Belair, as well as Dominus Estate in Napa Valley.
Tasting Notes
The deep red colour with smashed cherry tints promise a rich wine. The nose is very complex, blending mild tobacco, fresh fruits and flower notes.
On the palate the wine is fleshy and soft, offering hints of bright cherry fruits and rose water. The finish is gorgeously refreshing, bringing forth a nice expression of minerality from the limestone terrior. The purity of its aromas and soft tannins in the wine brings both strength and finesse. Overall, the Chateau Fonroque is an elegant, carefully crafted wine from an exceptional terrior!
Food Pairing
This Grand Cru Classe is best paired with roasted prime ribs, or any meat with intense flavours like a black pepper beef steak.
