Inspired by the sheer strength and balance of the recognized world's best Merlot from Chateau Petrus, James Irvine started his winery in Eden Valley in South Australia in 1980, focusing solely on the creation of premium Merlots.
Hailed as Australia’s undisputed King of Merlot, Irvine prides itself as Australia's best Merlot producer and a specialist in luxury Merlots. With gorgeous vineyards situated 400m above sea level, the winery received a 5 star rating from James Halliday.
The Estate Merlot reflects a pale ruby shine with a slight garnet rim. Aromas of red plums and cherries are dominant, followed by the fragrance of rose petals and sweet spice notes of cinnamon and vanilla. Extracts of plums, hawthorn and chocolate can be found on the palate. Acidity of the wine is fresh and within the medium plus range. The tannins are fine and sweet, well-balanced at 14.5% of alcohol. The wine has a medium and dry finish - a well made definition of the Merlot varietal.
A glass of the Irvine Estate Merlot is best paired with roasted prime ribs with Yorkshire pudding and steamed corns. Made from carefully selected grapes, this bottle is ideal for every day enjoyment at a premium level.
