The Wine

Olivier’s winemaking career began over 30 years ago right here in Chateauneuf-du-Pape at Domaine des Relagnes, where he spent 20 years raising the estate's wine quality with each vintage that would allow it. Later, Olivier convinced his Ex-Father-in-law, Henri Boirin to rent a few hectares of the vineyard to him and created his own label. As the estate's winemaker, he naturally chose the very best parcels - most notably the ‘Les Petits Pieds d’Armand’ where he made his top cuvée.
The soil in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is covered in round, smooth stones called galets (gah-lay). These stones help to reflect and absorb the heat from the hot Southern Rhone Valley sunlight, holding in the moisture of the soils and hastening the ripening of grapes. With his rich experience, Olivier keeps his yields very low to produce wines with great concentration and soft, silky tannins.

If you find yourself in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, you can look forward to meeting Olivier during lunch at his bistro and boulangerie "La Part des Anges", located right in the village centre!

Tasting Notes

The wine reflects the shade of a shiny plum red. A reserved aroma hints of tea, licorice, red cherry and red currant preserves. This bottle offers a juicier version of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend, with loads of strawberry and black cherry fruit, intermixed with Christmas fruitcake, incense, roasted herb and spice box notes. The tannins are integrated with a touch of menthol, ending off with a compact finishing. This luscious 2011 vintage is ideal for immediate drinking, or to be appreciated over the next 10 years.

Food Pairing

The natural freshness and spicy quality of red Chateauneuf du Pape make it perfect to serve with everything from grilled beef, veal, pork, roasted duck, sausage and lamb, to stews, braised dishes, and rich seafood dishes. A perfect choice for both Asian and European dishes on the table!
